It is funny how the theatre has such a profound impact on me and I assume others too. Ever since I was a child I have always admired those that are talented enough to portray stories though acting, music and dance. Don't get me wrong, no matter how much I adore them for what they do, I still envy them with every fibre of my being. Performing is the one thing that I have always wanted to do, to be able captivate an audience and to have them enthralled in the story that is being told but I came to the conclusion a long time ago that this wasn't a realistic ambition.
My second love in life is reading, books seem to have some magical property that can transport my mind from whatever it is I happen to be dealing with in the real world and provides me with complete escapism. Ever since I read Harry Potter as a youngster I have had the ambition of publishing a book, I have come close a few times but I decided to start this blog to detail my journey to hopefully becoming published.
I'm still not going to give up entirely on performing, I understand that it is unrealistic but I am a strong believer that anyone can be whoever they want to be in life. All it takes is time and dedication.
So this 'fresh start' began with a trip to London's West End to see Hamilton which I have to recommend to anyone and everyone, it is a fantastic show and will leave you wanting more. The London production of this show is outstanding and the cast or just something else. If you haven't done so already you should definitely book some tickets as soon as you can, you won't be disappointed.
I know the tickets can be expensive but there is actually a lottery where the winners get the opportunity to purchase tickets at £10.00.
Anyway, I have a few plans to work through, I have some plot ideas that I want to get down on paper and a few challenges planned along the way including participating in NaNoWriMo. If you don't know what it is, it is a community event for writers to come together and challenge themselves to write a predetermined number of words in the month of November. You can check it out below.
I have recently joined an amateur dramatics society called Centre Stage in Newport - South Wales. We are currently rehearsing twice a week for our performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita in October. I joined late so missed auditions for the principal roles but I am part of the ensemble and I absolutely love it. If you are in South Wales between 24 - 27 October then please come along it'll be a great show.
I could keep writing for an age on here but I am going to leave it there for a little bit, my goal is to post daily, I may decide to take a day out once a week but I'll see how it goes. I hope you join my on this journey and we can see where it takes me.
One final thing, a great tool that I have used before and plan to use again on this journey is a peer review critique circle that is able to give you other writer's thoughts and feelings. I will be looking for a small group of writers to critique my work on the road to publication and this is likely to be done on the below platform.
